Black Student Achievement Program (BSAP)

BSAP MANTRA

“Successful Black student achievement is defined by high academic performance, strong social-emotional awareness and management, and positive cultural identity. Furthermore, strategies and methods utilized to cultivate these things shall be directly responsive to the unique needs of Black students due in large part to the historic and ongoing social and economic conditions experienced by Black people.”

BSAP RESEARCH

The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) School Board recently committed to groundbreaking investments in Black students' education and emotional wellbeing through the Black Student Achievement Plan (BSAP). BSAP addresses Black students' unique needs due to historic and ongoing inequitable social and economic conditions in schools. The data from this study will contribute to the ongoing improvement of operations and implementation of changes that impact BSAP and most importantly the outcomes for Black students.

The evaluation, funded by LAUSD, is being conducted by the RAND Corporation and USC Rossier Center for Education Identity and Social Justice (RossierJustice). They will be collecting secondary data from LAUSD (e.g., student test scores and survey responses), as well as collecting interview, focus group, document, and observational data from a subset of 15 BSAP schools. Westchester Enriched Sciences Magnets is being asked to participate in the evaluation and assessment of the LAUSD BSAP.
