Academic Recognition Programs

 

Please join us Thursday, November 21, 2019 for our Annual Academic Recognition Night. This year we will honor over 120 students, including 44 seniors who have received a cumulative GPA of 3.5 since ninth grade.

 

Listed below are the incentive/awards that will be distributed to our deserving WESM scholars:

• Freshmen will be given Certificates of Congratulations
• Sophomores will be given "Lamp of Learning" pins
• Juniors will be given Academic Medallions
• Seniors will be given Academic Letterman's Jackets

Come celebrate these students' for their commitment to academic excellence!!!

 

 

The Academic Booster Club was formed in 1982 by a group of parents and faculty, to recognize students' academic effort, improvement and achievement. Academic Recognition Night is held each fall where students with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above are recognized. Freshman are recognized based on their ten week report card. Freshman receive a Certificate of Merit, Sophomores receive a Lamp of Learning Pin, Juniors receive an academic Medallion and Seniors receive the prized Letterman-style jacket personalized for each student including the Achieve with Honor Patch.

 

Awards are given out free of charge. The program is funded by parents, community members and alumni. It is one of the first programs of this type in LAUSD and the only program self-funded.

 

The ceremony takes place in the auditorium in the evening. It is open to family and friends of the students and is a much-anticipated event. Seniors proudly wear their jackets to school the day after the event-regardless of the weather. The jackets are a sign of achievement that is recognized campus-wide.
