Basketball (B)

Westchester is home to one of the best boys' basketball programs--2018 Los Angeles City Open Divsion Champions--but also in the Country(#1 Public HS team in the Country 2002). With the help of a fine coaching staff and many outstandanding players over the years, Head Coach Ed Azzam has accumulated over 800 wins in his 37 years at the helm of this legendary program.

The Comets have 6 California State Division I titles, 14 Los Angeles City titles, and 21 Western League titles. Even more impressive is that Westchester's basketball program has graduated over 80 students who have gone on to receive Division I NCAA scholarships.

Many former Comet basketball players have gone on to play in the National Basketball Association. Three former players are currently experiencing success in the NBA. Trevor Ariza and Bobby Brown (Class of 2003) play for the Houston Rockets, and Amir Johnson (Class of 2005) plays for the Philadelphia 76ers.

Coach Azzam's primary focus is to build character and to develop student athletes who become fine young men. More important than wins and losses, Westchester players have a willingness to learn, which makes teaching more enjoyable for all involved. Expectations are always high for Comet basketball players, in the classroom as well as on the court.
